BledCom 2025: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Public Relations: Boon or Curse?


The 32nd International Public Relations Symposium (BledCom) will take place on 27-28 June 2025. This year's theme is Artificial Intelligence and Public Relations: Boon or Curse?

Artificial Intelligence (AI), in particular generative AI, is fundamentally changing the practice of public relations. On the one hand, it improves the creation of communication content (writing, editing, design) and the dissemination of messages. It also helps to research communication and monitor social developments, thereby increasing efficiency. AI can therefore be a useful tool for professionals and researchers. On the other hand, it also has a number of drawbacks: standardisation, lack of creativity, passivity and lack of critical reflection. Data protection, content authenticity, plagiarism, (mis)information and the potential for manipulation are also concerns. Its development is not well understood by most people and educators face an additional challenge. Digital natives - students - have a better understanding of AI than they do, which makes it difficult to identify and prevent fraudulent use.
